2018-2019 The Lane Spanish Lunch Program
I hope you had an enjoyable summer. A new school year has begun and I would like to remind you of The Lane
Spanish Lunch Program. I am excited to resume working with your children beginning the week of October 1st.
As some of you may already know, the Spanish program is designed for all The Lane students in first through fourth grade.
Students are invited to share the Spanish language immersion experience with songs, interactive language games, and conversational role-playing. Students will gain exposure to authentic cultural traditions from Spanish speaking countries. In addition, I also plan to expand students’ cultural awareness of the Latino influence in Chicago and the U.S. The curriculum is a spiral method that reinforces and builds upon previously learned vocabulary and grammar concepts. This provides a solid foundation for more formal instruction in middle school.
I was born and raised in Argentina before relocating to the United States. I received my BA in Spanish Education and Sociology. After college, I worked as a high school Spanish teacher and later as a bilingual elementary teacher while completing my Masters in Reading. I have a wide range of experience as a foreign language teacher in the inner city and suburbs and as a methods teacher for Berlitz School of Language.
After taking a break to raise five bilingual children in the area, I resumed my career as a foreign language teaching consultant for the Office of World Language in the Chicago Public Schools. I missed teaching and was thrilled to start The Lane’s Spanish at Lunch program. This was eighteen years ago, and I still love every class! In addition to diverse teaching experiences such as language immersion camps at my home, and high school Spanish tutoring, I also filled a three-month maternity leave for a full-time Spanish teacher at Butler Jr. High. However, this experience confirmed that my passion is elementary school language instruction-preferably part-time.
look forward to the smiling faces of my The Lane students soon.
