attendance. Please keep in mind that teachers are extremely busy preparing for the upcoming school year, and classrooms are not open to visitors prior to the first day of school. If you have specific questions, feel free to contact me, and I will be happy to assist in any way possible.

Communication
Effective communication is fundamental to the continued success of The Lane School Community. To aide in this effort, each week, in partnership with the PTO, the Bulldog Blast is distributed to all Lane School families. If you are not yet a subscriber, please be sure to check out the PTO website to sign up to receive this important communication tool.
Additionally, in effort to ensure that you can always access curriculum/grade level specific information, our individual grade level teams will update websites on a consistent basis to ensure that you are always aware of the current happenings.
Lunch Program
Students in Grades 1-5 may stay for lunch on full days of school.
Grades 1, 3, and 4: Lunch 11:25 a.m. and Recess 11:50 a.m.
Grades 2 and 5: Recess: 11:25 a.m. and Lunch 11:50 a.m.
Please ensure that your child has a complete nutritious lunch that will sustain them through the academic day. The only item that can be purchased at The Lane is milk at a cost of $.30 (chocolate or plain). Students in Grades 1-5 may go home for lunch. Students should know their lunch plans when they arrive at school for attendance.
For your convenience, when dropping off your child’s lunch during school hours, we have a designated place in the foyer to place lunches. Hopefully, not having to gain access to the office will save you time. This process will also be quicker for students in that lunches will be delivered directly to the MPR at 11:20 am avoiding the need for students to stop by the office to get them.
Supervision on School Grounds
Supervision begins at 8:20 a.m. For the safety of the students, students are not allowed on school grounds prior to 8:20 a.m. Once on school grounds at 8:20 a.m., students in grades K-5 will line up in their grade level area in front of the school and they will enter the building when the first bell rings at 8:30 a.m. Please make sure that your child does not arrive to school prior to 8:20 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, students will assemble inside the building at 8:20 a.m.
Library
The Lane’s Library is open at 8:20 each morning to allow students to check out books before the school day starts.
Students may have four or five books checked out a time, depending on grade level. Online resources that are provided for at home use may be found at http://d181.booksys.net/opac/lane/index.html#menuVisual, password flyers will be passed out at curriculum night.

Reporting of Absences
When your child is absent, a parent should call the office before 8:30 a.m. Absences occurring in the afternoon should be reported by 12:10 p.m. In order to ensure the safety of every child at The Lane, if a student is not present and we have not received a call, our secretary, Mrs. Pedersen, will call home to verify an absence.
Bicycle Riding to The Lane
Students in Grades 3-5 may ride their bike to school only after they have completed the bicycle safety check. All 3rd graders and any new 4th and 5th grade students interested in riding their bike to school must attend the “Bike Rodeo.”
Students who have already passed the “Bike Rodeo” do not need to attend. The Bike Rodeo is scheduled for Wednesday, August 30th, immediately after school.
Safety to and from School
Please review safety practices with your child, including the use of the crossing guard intersections, looking both ways, crossing at intersections, avoiding strangers, walking with friends/siblings, and utilizing the safest route to and from school. Additionally, please be sure to follow the Carpool Line Expectations.
Car Pool Lane Safety
- Please drive slowly and DO NOT cut around other vehicles in the car line.
- Cell phone use is prohibited while in the car pool line.
- Staff members are available to supervise students. Please remain inside your car at all times.
- The car pool line begins on the north side of Elm Street after the parking lot entrance. Enter the car pool
line from Fuller Road. Do not turn into the car pool line from Minneola. - Students and all walkers must cross with the Crossing Guard at the intersection of Elm and The Lane. No students should be dropped off on The Lane.
